The “Let’s Pause” Conversation That Doesn’t Mean Goodbye

Structure a pause so January is one email, not a re-close.

A pause is not a ghost and not a renewal. It’s a dated shelf. Cancellation still applies to unused sessions you already billed — say so. After a slump or a group clash, pause can be the clean move.

The Structure

  1. Why — one sentence, theirs.
  2. Until — a date (Jan 8, not “later”).
  3. What’s frozen — sessions, Slack, homework.
  4. The return email — you send it on that date. They reply yes / complete.

Write it. Both keep a copy.

The Return Line

“It’s [date]. The pause ends. Resume on [slot] or we complete. Which?”

One email. Not a discovery call.

Pause

Where Coaches Break

  • “Take all the time you need.” That’s a goodbye with extra steps.
  • Re-pitching in January. The offer already existed.

The 3-Minute Action

Write the four-part pause for anyone who has said “maybe after the holidays.” Send it with a January date.
