If you cannot say no to them in public, you cannot coach them in private. First clients from Instagram feel easy. They are how dual roles start. This is the decision test, not the whole notes policy.
The Test
“If this goes badly, can I still be in the same room / feed / friend group without lying?”
If the answer is no, don’t enroll. Boundaries include who you never put on the calendar. A cohort does not make a former date safer. It makes the audience bigger.
How to Decline
“I like this relationship too much to put a fee in the middle of it. I can refer.”
Then refer. Don’t “just do a few sessions.”
Where Coaches Break
- “We’ll keep it professional.” You already failed the test.
- Coaching a follower who can tank you with a story. That’s leverage, not intimacy.

List anyone in your pipeline you could not refuse in public. Move them to refer. Do it before the next discovery.
